Bampton is a pretty village in mid-west Devon, situated about 5 miles from the edge of
Exmoor and about 2 miles from the Somerset border. The nearest town is Tiverton which
is 6 miles away followed by Taunton (21 miles) and Exeter (22 miles).
The village is famous for the annual 'Bampton Fair' which is held on the last Thursday
in October. The fair used to draw a lot of visitors because of it's Pony Sales whereby
ponies from Exmoor were sold to the public. However this was stopped due to protests
from Animal Rights Activists, and the fair has seen a significant decline in numbers
as a result. All that is left are market stalls and funfairs.
Bampton has won the national 'Best Kept Village' and 'Britain in Bloom' contests on several occasions.
